The most common and straightforward way to get a visum is a single-entry tourist visum.

In order to obtain a tourist Visum to Russia, you will generally need the following documents:

1. A passport which has to be valid for at least six months after your planned departure from Russia
2. A health insurance policy covering your stay in Russia
3. An official invitation letter from Russia or hotel confirmation – for details read below
4. Filled out visa application form which you can obtain from your local Russian consulate.

How to get an invitation for a Russian visa?

If you book a hotel through a travel agency, you will receive a hotel confirmation which replaces an invitation letter. With this confirmation and the documents mentioned above, you should be able to obtain a visum.

However, if you don’t want to book a hotel through a travel agency, or if you’d like to stay in a place which doesn’t provide such letters (often lower price class hotels and hostels don’t provide them), you’ll have to request a visa invitation letter. With such an invitation, you’ll be independent from hotel booking and more flexible in Russia. Tip: Make the duration of your visa a few days longer than you intend to stay in the Russian Federation. This way, you can easily avoid problems if your departure is delayed by whatever reasons.

Register Russian Visa

After arrival in Russia, you will have to register your visa at the police. Usually, hotels or hostels do this service for their guests for a small fee.
